With Words

A poem. A song. A something that is hopefully appropriate for the current predicament.

With Words

I’m self-isolating.
I’m hermetized.
I’m distancing,
as I’ve been advised.
I’m staying at home
in my little hutch.
We can’t hold each other
but with words, we touch.

I’m hearing you
as never before.
And you’re hearing me.
With words, we explore.
We’re learning each other;
our hang ups and such,
and each other’s secrets.
With our words, we touch.

It hasn’t the feel
of skin meeting skin.
We are becoming
what we never have been.
Our back and forth words
are more than the clutch
of bodies entwined.
It’s with words, we touch.

I’m feeling you
as I didn’t before.
I think we’re becoming
something much more
than what we once were
when skin was the crutch.
We don’t hold each other
but with words, we touch.
