Cup and a Monkey

Out on the corner,
with a cup and a monkey,
skinny and bent,
getting old, I will be
the man who is waiting
for what he won’t see;
a way to rewrite
the poetry
he lived and he wrote,
the tin cup, the monkey,
the choices he made,
the corner that’s me.
